Internet Affiliate Marketing Program: PPC And Commissions
By:
Published: October 30, 2006
One of the simplest tools in the arsenal of a web business person is working an affiliate program with other websites. This method is an effective means of promoting other's internet businesses who will in turn promote your web business.
One of the biggest proponents of affiliate marketing is Ola Edvardsson.
Edvardsson, who is considered "one of the world's top experts on affilite marketing" says that affiliate marketing works based on the examples of Google and Overture. Overture and Google use a system known as Pay-Per-Click. This is defined simply as an e-commerce merchant paying a search engine a specific fee every time a web searcher clicks on the merchant's link in a search engine. Because Google and Overture use pay-per-click advertising, and only on those two web sites alone, web traffic can be generated to your site because it will be on the top of the search results.
Aside from the praises of Google and Overture, Edvardsson stresses the importance of using your own e-mail list for all of your customers. Email addresses are gained through subscription forms on your web site, plus sharing your subscription list with other partners. This way, both your business and partnering companies can send e-mail offers to your customers in order to market your products.
Another example of affiliate network strategies is known as a "compensation scheme". Instead of pay-per-click, Amazon.com offers a 15% commission when one of their books is sold through a partnering web site. LendingTree and NextCard offers a reward of $14 and $20, respectively for a sale, while FogDog offers a 5% commission.
Aside from the Pay-Per-Click method of affiliate marketing, other strategies for a business partnership are: building a mailing list of your own customers and keeping it constantly updated, publishing success stories, articles, or product reviews on you rweb site to boast the advantages of your product,
maintaining a web log (blog) of your e-business to keep the lines of communication between you and your customers open. Above all, keep track of how many visitors go from your web site to your affiliate's web sites and how many sales are generated from this traffic. This can help you decide which affilites to stick with and which ones to let go.
The standard rule in any Sales Department is "ABC" which stands for Always Be Closing." The affiliated marketing strategy consists of the four C's: Commission, Creative, Consistency, and Communication. How much will you be paid per click, per sale, or per sales lead?
Have you joined an affilite program that uses creative methods to sell products such as an eye-catching banner ad, product reviews, or memerable e-mails? Always be consistent and always keep your customers updated with new sales and promotions. Do not necessarily flood your customers with daily e-mail messages. Instead, give them monthly or weekly messages about new promotions, sales, or new products. Lastly, Keep the lines of communication between yourself and your affilites open. Let them know about everything that your company is doing and also try to lend them some support when they need help. This way, if you ever need help, your affiliates can help you out with a problem.
In some cases, affiliate marketing strategies are a better means of generating business than working on your own.
